RELEASE:
REQUEST FROM ATTORNEY REGISTRATION OFFICE AT OCA FOR HANDLING OF ROUTINE
INQUIRIES ABOUT ATTORNEYS
Thursday, September 27, 2001
STEPHEN GALLAGHER" <sgallagher@nysba.org>
Director, Law Office, Economics and
Management, New York State Bar Association
I just got a call from the Attorney
Registration Office at OCA. Their office was in the neighborhood of the
WTC disaster area, and although their office reopened a short time ago,
they are still not operating at full capacity.
They are aware of NYSBA's Disaster Assistance Website, and are very
appreciative that we are posting temporary information on attorneys' new
office locations, etc.
Given their limited office capabilities at this time, the Attorney
Registration Office asks that for routine inquiries about attorneys
(i.e., the normal requests we get regarding attorneys' addresses) we try
to direct callers to OCA's website for this routine attorney information
(rather than suggesting that people call OCA). Their website address is:
http://www.courts.state.ny.us
With regard to callers asking for information on attorneys displaced as
a result of the WTC disaster, the Attorney Registration Office is NOT
taking attorneys' temporary office address changes at this time. As
such, please do not suggest to callers that they call the Attorney
Registration Office for this temporary information.
OCA asks that we continue to direct callers to our NYSBA website, both
to enter new contact information, as well as to obtain attorneys'
information.
If you have any questions, please give me a call at ext 5570. Thanks for
your help and cooperation.
